This Shabbat is Shabbat Chazon, the Sabbath of Vision. The assigned prophetic reading is Isaiah’s vision of a redeemed Jerusalem and a restored Temple. In this week’s Torah portion the Israelites are at the border of realizing their age-old dream: to live free and in mutual responsibility to one another. The book of Deuteronomy discloses key words essential to constituting an inclusive society based on collective responsibility.
