The land of promise is more than a place. It is a state of being. To get there is to cross over from living through fear and complaint and dependence to living through love and initiative and responsibility. View the study sheet here. Watch the recording here.
All of Torah is a lesson in narrative form about what it means to be a human being. To be alive is to earn one’s way in the world. To take possession of the land of promise is to become a fully developed human being in community with others.
This week’s Torah portion is complimented by a reading from Isaiah which begins: “Comfort, oh comfort My people, says your God.” It is a message of restoration of sovereignty. Read carefully the text reveals a surprise as to who the comforter is. And read in conjunction with the Torah text we learn all we need to know to move from cynicism and dependence to hope and control over our destiny. Join us here at 7:00 p.m. (PDT) Thursday July 22 as we explore that you are the one who comforts.
